Tear-jerker Brokeback Mountain is set to become an opera. The film, starring Heath Ledger and Jake Glyyenhaal, focused on the lives of two cowboys who fall in love in rural 1950s America. It won several high profile awards, including three Academy Awards.
The New York City Opera has commissioned the work, which is based on both the film, directed by Ang Lee, and the short story by Annie Proulx that the film is based on. The opera will premiere in the Spring of 2013.
